I am very disappointed in my experience with Handyman Matters. After visits from 3 service providers the job is still not complete.

This is a long and detailed review because I want to be honest and fair. I called HMM to have the sub-floor replaced in our powder room. Was told by office representative that the job should take about 3-3 1/2 hrs. That time included the craftsman removing the toilet (we discussed him carrying the toilet away), the old wood flooring and going to Home Depot to purchase the materials needed to complete the job.

I asked if I should go ahead and purchase the materials myself. She said that would be fine, and added that if I did go purchase the items to let her know so that she would reduce the time. We scheduled an appointment for 8:00am. The craftsman arrived on time for the first appointment.

My husband had surgery the week before and while we were in the hospital a family member stayed with our children and was unaware that we weren't using the bathroom. The toilet was not clean. The craftsman said that he would not be able to remove the toilet by himself and would need another pair of hands to help him carry it out. I suspected it had something to do with the condition of the toilet but I understood.

We also discussed other jobs that would need to be done like installing the tile, replacing the vanity and repairing the ceiling below the bathroom where the toilet had flooded and the drywall needed to be repaired. He told me that he would be able to do those tasks I would just have to pay for the time and it would probably require more than one visit. I rescheduled the appointment for 2 service providers the next day. I cleaned the toilet and my neighbor came over and removed the old toilet.

He also removed the vanity. (It took him less than an hour.) I then removed the old floor (engineered wood) to expose the sub-floor. I called the HMM office and informed the rep of the updated condition. She removed the scheduled second repairman and adjusted the estimated time to 2 hours.

Here is where it all went bad. 8 am the second day-No craftsman arrives 8:30am I call the HMM offices and was informed that he would not return (no explanation given) but that they were sending someone else out and that he would call me with an ETA. He called and said that he would be there as soon as possible. 9:30am-He arrived and inspected the bathroom 10:22am-after several trips to his truck I got curious and went to look at his progress.

He had made very little. He removed the wall border and cut a very small hole above where my toilet used to be. I used my cell phone to take a photo. 10:45am-during another trip to the truck I checked again.

There was one additional smaller hole cut in the floor. I took another photo. 11:26am-He removed a large piece of plywood subfloor. I stopped him then.

We called the office. I discussed with the rep that the job had taken longer than expected and his progress was not sufficient. He still had not acquired the materials from Home Depot. I explained that I did not want to pay him anymore and would rather have someone else come to finish the sub-floor and install the tile.

She told me that she would schedule the next craftsman for a half-day to finish the sub-floor and install the tile. Next visit 8:00 am-Craftsman assured me that I was in good hands. In fact, the best in the company. He then informed me that he was only told he had to complete the sub-floor so he did not have his tile saw with him.

Told me not to sign the work order and guaranteed that he would return the next day with the needed tools. He also told me exactly what to buy at Home Depot so that he would not have to go himself. 8:00am the following day No call, No show. 8:24am I call HMM offices and was told that he would not be coming (no explanation).

She asked me to give her a few minutes to work on things on her end and that she would call back shortly. Later that day-I called again. Really frustrated. I informed her that I didn't want the tile done anymore just someone to finish the sub-floor.

She said she would call back soon. She didn't. Later that afternoon my husband called. Was told they were aware of the situation.

The female rep had left for the day. Someone would call in the morning. 8:30 am this morning she calls to ask me if someone would be home today. I said yes and she told me that the second repairman, the one that cut the floor would return today by 11am.

5:48 pm-He calls to inform me that he has knocked on my door but no one is home. My husband and 13 year old son are both in the home at the time, though it's not impossible that they didn't hear someone knocking. I ask him if I would be charged full price for his visit and he says yes. He asked if I wanted him to stay.

I said no. He said he would have the office call me in the morning.

I have absolutely no confidence the he would have completed the work properly within a reasonable amount of time. Very little effort was made to ensure that I would be a satisfied customer when this job was complete.

Reason of review: Incomplete work.

Monetary Loss: $400.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Handyman Matters Cons: Entire job and service, Runaround, Not reliable, Poor customer service, Workmanship.
